PSW and Graduate visa

PSW visa strategy for UK graduate jobs

The Graduate visa period can help you start working in the UK, but it is not a complete job search strategy. You still need to choose roles that build UK evidence and keep a future sponsorship route realistic.

Use PSW to build evidence, not just time

A common mistake is treating the Graduate visa as extra time to apply randomly. The better approach is to use it to build UK workplace evidence: client support, data reporting, project coordination, stakeholder communication or industry-specific experience.

Even if your first role is not your final career target, it should make your next application stronger. Avoid roles that add little evidence and consume months of your visa period.

Good role patterns to consider

  • Graduate schemes where the employer clearly accepts international applicants.
  • Entry-level analyst, associate or assistant roles with transferable evidence.
  • Operations, project, marketing, data and client support roles that match your background.
  • Roles that can plausibly progress into skilled work if sponsorship becomes relevant later.

What to avoid

Be cautious with roles that say no future sponsorship, unpaid internships, vague commission-only roles, or jobs far below your target skill level. These may help you stay busy but can weaken your long-term route.

Next step
